Operations at the Konkola Deep Mining Project (KDMP) have achieved a historic technical milestone this week with the commissioning of the newly upgraded drainage and hoisting shafts.
Chililabombwe — Mining engineers and local union leaders have celebrated a landmark operational achievement at the flagship Konkola Deep Mining Project (KDMP) following the formal commissioning of upgraded sub-vertical drainage pumps and deep-level ore hoisting mechanisms.
The breakthrough allows the mine to securely access high-grade copper reserves seated over 1,500 meters beneath the surface. Community representatives speaking on Konkola Radio’s Umulabasa Community Forum commended the investment, emphasizing that it anchors thousands of local mining and contractor livelihoods in Chililabombwe.
Station correspondents report that local fabrication firms and small engineering suppliers in the district are set to benefit directly through prioritized supply chain contracts.
